1 day (Zoom) - Dealing with Vicarious Trauma- 20th May 2026
1 day Zoom workshop, from 9:00 to 16:00 (Sat) 20th May 2026 (7 CPD hours). Aim of the Workshop
To support the development of skills for the prevention and management of burnout and vicarious trauma while supporting others (applying the “oxygen mask” principle — taking care of oneself in order to support others effectively).
Learning Outcomes
As a result of this training, participants will:
1. Learn how to recognise early signs of burnout and vicarious trauma, and understand practical skills that can be applied during the working day to reduce their impact while supporting others in distress.
2. Learn practical strategies to reduce their own experience of vicarious trauma and burnout, including skills that can be applied both at work and after work to support recovery and long-term sustainability, and gain an understanding of how to support colleagues affected by secondary trauma — including how to respond to distress reactions.
3. Be introduced to basic skills for managing their own emotional and physiological responses to clients’ distress, including techniques that support regulation after work and between shifts. These are simple, practical tools suitable across professional roles;
qualified therapists and psychologists often find them helpful as grounding and
sustainability skills alongside their existing clinical expertise.
